Open Graph Generator

Fill in the title, description, image and URL: the tool outputs the meta tags to paste in the <head> and checks for common mistakes.

Privacy and cost

This tool runs in your browser. What you type or paste is not sent to our servers and it costs nothing to use.

How it works

  1. Enter the title, description, page URL and the absolute image URL (with its size if you know it).
  2. Pick the type (website, article, product…): for an article, add the publication date, author and section.
  3. Copy the tags into the <head>, optionally with a twitter:card block, and fix anything flagged.

Example

With the title "10 Tips for Faster Websites", a URL, a 1200×630 image with alt text, a site name and the en_GB locale, the tool outputs 10 meta property tags (og:title, og:type, og:url, og:image, og:image:width, og:image:height, og:image:alt, og:description, og:site_name, og:locale) and reports no problem.

What the result means

Open Graph tags, created by Facebook, describe the page when it is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and more. They do not directly influence Google rankings. The four basic tags are og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url. Platforms cache the data: use their debuggers after a change.

Common problems this tool helps with

  • A shared link with no image, or an image cropped in the wrong place.
  • A relative or http image URL that some platforms reject.
  • An og:title too long, truncated in the preview.
  • An og:url that differs from the canonical URL, which splits share counts.

Frequently asked questions

What image size should I use?

The commonly recommended size is 1200×630 px (1.91:1 ratio) over https. A square image also works for small previews but is cropped on large cards.

Do I also need Twitter/X tags?

X falls back to Open Graph tags. Add at least twitter:card to choose the layout; the tool's option adds it for you.

Do Open Graph tags help SEO?

Not directly. They improve how shared links look and how often they are clicked, which can bring more visits and mentions.
